CLARIFICATION ON RULE 35 OF RULES OF PLAY DURING MATCHES (EXTREME HEAT)

To clarify Rule 35 on Pg. 14 of the handbook:

1) Do not cancel your match the night before (the weather forecast can change).

2) On the morning of play, if the forecast is for temps of 95 or above during a 3-hour window, beginning with your start time, you 1) may reschedule the match (see Rule 38), OR 2) agree to begin the match

3) If you begin your match and temps reach 95 during the match, as measured by a thermometer on the court (see guidelines for taking an accurate reading below), play is halted. The four players decide amongst themselves a date to complete the match, prior to the end of the half (Rule 38). If teams have split sets and wish to continue, they have two choices: 1) play a third set or 2) play a 10-point tiebreaker. The underlying assumption of this paragraph is that if players have stopped play to take the temperature, it means one or more of the players believes it's too hot to continue. If no one was feeling ill effects of the heat, the players would not have stopped to take the temperature.
